Fokke Baarssen was born and raised in Almelo, a small town in the east of The Netherlands. Three years after attending the New York Film Academy in New York, Fokke directed his first Dutch short fiction film 'De Raad' to great acclaim.
In 2015 Fokke directed his first documentary in The Netherlands, 'De Jeweetwels', which premiered at the Garden State Film Festival (NJ, USA). Here it won the award for Best International Short Documentary. In that same year Fokke wrote and directed the short film 'Match', which was selected for a dozen film festivals in Europe and the United States and won four awards.
In 2018 Fokke made his American short film debut with 'Missed', winner of Best Film at Canada Shorts and Best Narrative Short at the Garden State Film Festival. His second US made short film 'Swung' premiered at the Garden State Film Festival where it won Best Comedy Short and is now submitted to many film festivals all over the globe.
Aside from working in documentaries and short fiction films, Fokke also directed commercials and corporate films for brands such as Microsoft, Spinnin' Records and LG.
Fokke divides his time between directing, filming and producing content for his production company Cosmic Visual.
